No Reverse Problem E46 Fanatics Forum Issue went away for a while . came back may need to add more fluid , however when i drive it, if i get on hiway and floor it, when i get to location it go's into reverse. The e46 3 series came with two different auto trannys, zf and gm. both have no reverse problems, but from my reading over the past couple of years, the zf is much worse.

I just recently dealt with this issue on my e46's transmission which was manufactured by zf. with zf transmissions' no reverse issue, it is almost never "just the solenoid". I already "baby" the transmission when i am in reverse always coming to a complete stop before shifting out of or into reverse. i'm about ready to dump my ride and purchase a manual. Ive just bought a 1999 e46 bmw 323 ci (104k miles) with an automatic gearbox .the gearbox has a problem in that it wont engage reverse gear , when you put it in reverse it's as if it's in neutral , all the other gears work as they should.
