Newhaptics In a series of short clips, our 210 dot tactile display prototype is controlled using a custom graphical user interface (gui) and keyboard. We recently made some big developments with our braille dot actuator technology. we now have a series of 210 dot prototypes with pins at 2.5 mm center to center spacing. we've also created a graphical user interface that allows us to draw shapes and render braille characters on the tactile surface. may 28, 2021 link to prototype demonstration.

Newhaptics Now, this ann arbor based team of innovators is using this game changing knowledge to drive newhaptics, a tactile display technology company founded to improve the lives of people who are blind by enabling true digital interaction through the sense of touch. Evan starnes sits down with alex russomanno, ceo of new haptics, to unpack the codex—a 4‑line x 32‑cell, multi‑line braille display powered by pneumatic actuation, a full‑surface touch interface (double‑tap to route the cursor), and mechanical perkins keys built for daily work. Newhaptics is developing large format refreshable tactile display technology that enables braille and graphics across an entire surface, allowing users who are blind to access complex digital. My work involves creating and validating design systems for braille user interfaces and developing custom rapid prototyping tools for codex — a multiline braille display powered by bespoke microfluidic technology. Unlike the state of the art technology for existing refreshable braille displays, newhaptics’ technology can scale up to a large area display supporting a grid of thousands of small tightly packed tactile dots. Newhaptics, an innovative tactile display technology company, announced it has been awarded a phase ii small business innovation research (sbir) grant funded by the u.s. national institutes of health (nih).
