Pathways To Dairy Net Zero Initiative Launched Pathways To Dairy Net Zero The u.s. dairy net zero initiative (nzi) is a collaboration of dairy organizations to advance research, on farm pilots and new market development to make sustainability practices more accessible and affordable to farms of all sizes. These tracks reflect u.s. dairy’s commitment to sound science and a recognition that environmental progress comes with economic viability for farmers. through this integrated approach, nzi makes technology and best practices more accessible and affordable to farms of all sizes and geographies.

White Paper Accelerating Action U S Dairy Net Zero Initiative Update What is the net zero initiative for us dairy? in february, cce dairy specialists from across the state and pro dairy hosted a 2 part virtual program titled “net zero for dairy: what you need to know”. With this vision in mind, the net zero initiative (nzi) launched in 2020 as an industry wide effort to accelerate voluntary action on farm to reduce environmental impacts by making sustainable practices and technologies more accessible and affordable to u.s. dairy farms of all sizes and geographies. The dairy farm innovation program, which is dependent on proposed policy changes, would compensate dairy farmers for the societal value created through the “all in” adoption of new technologies and management practices in reaching net zero. Starbucks and nestlé are partners of the u.s. dairy net zero initiative (nzi) and each has invested $10 million over five years to support farmers on their transition to net zero, including on farm pilot work.

About The Initiative Pathways To Dairy Net Zero The dairy farm innovation program, which is dependent on proposed policy changes, would compensate dairy farmers for the societal value created through the “all in” adoption of new technologies and management practices in reaching net zero. Starbucks and nestlé are partners of the u.s. dairy net zero initiative (nzi) and each has invested $10 million over five years to support farmers on their transition to net zero, including on farm pilot work. In 2020 the u.s. dairy industry established industry wide 2050 environmental stewardship goals to achieve greenhouse gas (ghg) neutrality, optimize water use while maximizing recycling and improve water quality by optimizing the use of manure and nutrients. To counter the threat of global warming and related changes in climate, many industries are setting goals for net zero ghg emissions or ghg neutrality. this includes the us dairy industry. the us dairy net zero initiative has set aggressive environmental goals, which include achieving ghg neutrality by 2050 (icusd, 2024). By expanding science based research and data collection, nzi closes knowledge gaps, improves analysis and advances practices and technologies that reduce environmental impact in four key areas of dairy production: feed production, cow care, energy eficiency and manure management. The ngt approach facilitated collaborative decision making and the development of a comprehensive roadmap for achieving net zero cattle production in the u.s., encompassing both beef and dairy sectors.
