Natural Lime Mortar Hydraulic Lime Mortar Lime Green The lower strength and greater permeability of natural hydraulic lime mortars when compared with cement based mortars is particularly suitable for repairs to older buildings and for traditional style. The lime is blended with kiln dried grit and river sand, which are 3mm down. the sands are pre washed to remove sediment before being dried and the result is a very workable mortar, with an off white colour. Lime mortar or torching[1][2] is a masonry mortar composed of lime and an aggregate such as sand, mixed with water. it is one of the oldest known types of mortar, used in ancient rome and greece, when it largely replaced the clay and gypsum mortars common to ancient egyptian construction. In the present study, different mortars are produced, using two different types of natural hydraulic lime, nhl2 and nhl3.5, while using the same aggregate and maintaining a constant consistency for each type of nhl mortar. Knowing the process required to create lime mortar properly can be the make or break of a construction project (literally)! but is it simple? or do you require experts to do it for you? where can you get the ingredients from? in this blog, we will show you how to make lime mortar.
