My son got married last friday to his best friend and love of his life and it couldn’t have been a more love filled event. i’ve got to be honest, it was a long time coming. they’d met at university, thirteen years ago, so we’d all been waiting a long time for the big proposal. On march 25th, 2025, i watched my 27 year old son get married to the mother of his three children. watching him stand on that altar making a lifelong commitment was a moment that filled me with so much pride. I don’t know whether my being a single mother to one child made it all the more intense, but i struggled a lot. he barely rang me for a full year – we’d spoken most weeks before then – and all. Allow your adult child to adjust to marriage, and see what new traditions and rhythms arise. and as you wait, do so with understanding and loving kindness, rather than developing an attitude of self pity and resentment.
