My Siggraph Experience Working in wha’s rendering studio, i am always on the lookout for ways to learn and improve my skillsets. so, when i had the opportunity of attending siggraph 2023 in los angeles, ca, one of the leading computer graphics conferences in the world, i couldn’t pass it up. I wanted to share with you my experience of attending siggraph for the first time and dive into the themes i observed, along with other intriguing highlights that caught my attention.
My Siggraph Experience Though i was not offered an internship or job on the spot, the practice, experience, and inspiration were incredibly helpful and trained me well to hopefully go back in the future. In 2024, i attended my first siggraph conferences—north america in denver and asia in tokyo—as a volunteer. what started as a recommendation from a professor turned into one of the most memorable experiences of my life. After reading the 50th anniversary reminiscences about siggraph, and, attending some of the siggraph 2023 retrospectives, i thought i’d share what i often think about when i think about my early years at siggraph, and how one’s experience changes over time. While the friends i've made from siggraph salt the wound with their photos of the beautiful waterfront vancouver convention center, i am reminded that it's my five year anniversary attending my first conference, and thusly, i want to share my experience with siggraph.
My Siggraph Experience After reading the 50th anniversary reminiscences about siggraph, and, attending some of the siggraph 2023 retrospectives, i thought i’d share what i often think about when i think about my early years at siggraph, and how one’s experience changes over time. While the friends i've made from siggraph salt the wound with their photos of the beautiful waterfront vancouver convention center, i am reminded that it's my five year anniversary attending my first conference, and thusly, i want to share my experience with siggraph. It was heart warming for me to see how successful my ex coworkers have become! every one of them that i ran into now has decades of production experience, and are now heads of departments, sups,. My first siggraph was in vancouver in 2011. it was a unique experience, and during this short week i made a ton of new friends, met incredible people and learned a lot about myself and others. I got to meet up with some of the most interesting people i’ve met in my life, a lot of them from unfamiliar fields from content creation to voice acting. i even got to meet some of the big company staff workers presenting in siggraph, like square enix and unity. I’m thankful for siggraph because it pushes me to learn not only how to present a paper, but how to use storytelling tools to walk people through a paper. recently i’ve heard people complaining about the timeline being slow and materials being too demanding during the review and camera ready period.
