Simply stated, art has help revitalize mesa’s downtown. design workshop, the landscape architect of record, worked in collaboration with bora architects and martha schwartz partners to help conceive a creative public realm for the campus.
Mesa Arts Center Landscape Plan These forms create a poetic statement about people coming together in celebration, an appropriate image for the center at the heart of the community. a boulder filled 300 foot arroyo, lined with gold travertine tile and slices of lava rock runs along the whole of the western side of the shadow walk. Our portfolio ranges from intimate garden spaces to large scale, comprehensive, master planning projects. with each project, we design with the understanding that what we do must be worthy of future generations. The dry arroyo wasn’t dry when i visited mesa arts center last fall. this gold tile and lava rock gash in the so called shadow walk that arcs through the site was supposed to be dry most of the time—like an actual desert arroyo—but it seems the water runs almost constantly. Set on a seven acre (three ha) campus directly across from city hall, the public arts complex contains galleries and other exhibit spaces, four theaters, studios, classrooms, and administrative offices, as well as a large outdoor plaza and passageway.
