Our research group mainly focuses on complex fluids and its technology applications. Complex flow patterns in shear thickening suspensions. experiments and sph simulations. co supervisor: prof. marco ellero, basque center for applied mathematics, spain. second supervisor (swansea): dr. dan curtis. dr. james matthew campbell (postdoc, joint with porelab oslo) dr. deren ozturk (phd) dr. david james (postdoc). His research interests are in turbulent flows over rough walls, heat transfer, turbomachinery, superhydrophobic surfaces, wind turbines and oceanography. his numerical results have contributed to an improved understanding of the effect of roughness on turbulent flows and heat transfer. The penn complex fluids lab sits at the intersection of fluid dynamics, soft & living matter, and environmental science. we seek to develop fundamental understanding of the physical chemical properties that govern the structure and behavior of naturally occurring complex fluids. The complex fluid research group encompasses the rheological microfluidic laboratory (led by dr francesco del giudice), the complex flow laboratory (led by dr bjornar sandnes) and the advanced rheometry laboratory (led by dr dan curtis and dr matthew barrow).
