May 21 2011 Topeka Ks Tornadic Supercell The day before joplin took us to northeast kansas where we intercepted a tornadic supercell. numerous tornadoes occurred this day, even causing unfortunate fatalities and injuries. We sat just west of topeka watching towers go up north and southwest. finally we committed to two storms southwest of us, one left mover and one right (that ended up developing into the topeka storm).
May 21 2011 Topeka Ks Tornadic Supercell An intense tornadic supercell plowed eastward just north of i 35 from emporia to reading after sunset, hitting reading and causing great damage, apparently. when we got south to view the storm southwest of ottawa, it had weakened considerably. Reflectivity and storm relative velocity of the supercell thunderstorms that produced the tornados. the supercell thunderstorm developed over southeastern wabaunsee county dropping 2 1 2" hail onto eskridge.
