Malamander Book Review Whatbooknext While gargantis is still a good story, i enjoyed malamander, the first book in this series, a lot more. gargantis didn't seem to have the same level of intrigue as the previous book; but this book nonetheless does have its exciting parts. With the help of the daring violet parma, ever reliable herbie will do his best to figure out what the gargantis wants and who stole her treasure in the first place.

Building on the mystical atmosphere in malamander, gargantis creates high expectations from page 1. more intense and even more action packed than the first novel, i was quickly sucked into the world of mystery, legends and monsters. The book dispensing mermonkey and oracular cat from opening volume malamander (2019) return in key roles. underlying all the fun is a gentle, unforced message about life’s interdependence.

Angry townsfolk! deadly whirlpools! the camera obscura is damaged in an attack upon lady kraken! this sequel is as well written as the first in the series, malamander. though longer than the last book, taylor’s short chapters and excitement make it fly by. Gargantis was just as atmospheric and brilliant as malamander. these books are so perfect for that age between middle grade and young adult. fantastic mystery, whimsical writing style and surprisingly in depth characters. i especially love the world building the author has created.
