In the current paper, we focus on dli programs that are also called two way immersion programs, where native speakers of the majority and of the minority language are in class together and instruction is split across both languages. Heritage learners (aka heritage language learners): a learner who is raised in a home where a language other than english is spoken and speaks or at least understands the language, and is to some degree bilingual in that language and in the dominant language (valdés, 2005).
