Lent Reading Feb 28 2017 Introduction To The 2017 Lent Project The crown of thorns is celebrated on the first friday of lent. the cross of jesus was fifteen feet high and eight feet wide; the length of the way to calvary was one half mile. The sacrificial season of lent is a time for us to purposefully go deeper with christ through reflection, action and renewal. its structure offers practical ways to increase our devotion and love for christ.
Lent 2017 Pro Life Action League Because i was a little boy in the aftermath of the second world war, i grew up with a military, rather than a religious, sense of the term ‘retreat’. Lent becomes that time to “return to god with your whole heart” as we hear in the prayers for ash wednesday. it is a journey of daily steps that brings us closer to the welcoming arms of a loving and provident god. Beginning on ash wednesday (march 1) and ending on easter sunday (april 16), lent is that 40 day season (not counting sundays) when the church commemorates the 40 days jesus spent in solitude, in silence, and fasting in the wilderness. This calendar is an invitation to step into the journey of lent with intentionality and awareness by taking on a traditional lenten discipline: fasting for the good of the body, prayer for the good of the spirit, acts of love for the good of the neighbor.
