Based on a new approach to detecting such flashes, the seti institute’s laserseti program will build a network of instruments to monitor the entire night sky. this would be an unprecedented capability to search for manifestations of sophisticated intelligence beyond earth.

Laserseti Installed Laserseti In july 2024, two new laserseti instruments were installed in sedona, arizona, making for the third laserseti observatory. as of spring 2025, the instruments have been focused and are fully operational. And at the forefront of this modern approach is a new, innovative project called laserseti. it’s an experiment designed to continuously scan the entire night sky for the briefest flash of a laser beam, a potential “hello” from another world. This installation brings the number of active laserseti observatories to three, enhancing our ability to scan the entire sky and monitor for extrasolar laser pulses continuously. From the seti institute 8.2.24 july marked a significant milestone in optical seti research, as the seti institute team installed two new laserseti stations in sedona, az.

Each laserseti device uses cameras with a commercial lens that images approximately 75 degrees of sky onto off the shelf solid state detectors. therefore, with multiple laserseti observatories around the globe, all sky monitoring is in reach. Two new laserseti stations will be installed this weekend in sedona, arizona. although the current installations in california and hawai’i observe almost 20% of the sky at one time, that will go up dramatically with the new observatory.
