As a librarian, it’s almost a must have to do a cat themed storytime! and while i’d consider myself more of a dog person, there are some absolutely adorable cat books on the shelves!. I just learned that september is happy cat month, so it seemed like the perfect time to share some of my favorite cat books and songs at our storytimes this week. “kitten’s first full moon” is a favorite for everyone — a lot of the parents wind up laughing when the kids chime in with me, “poor kitten!” craft time was spent seeing all the very creatively colored cats and touching base with all of the parents after the fall storytime break. I had planned this storytime for a 3 5 year old audience, but we ended up with a range from young toddlers to five year olds. i started with the book excellent ed because i love it and think the story is so sweet. During the short storytime portion, we get out our parachute and do some fun songs with it – always the same each week. i’ve themed them loosely for the collaborative summer library program (cslp) theme that my library uses.
