Kickback Router Forums
Kickback Router Forums Starting with 1 4 inch bit with top bearing, with template flat on table, i was able to make a cut all around, without changing direction, without any kickback. I'm doing some fancy corners for my granddaughters desk. i'm using a compression bit with a template. while doing the first corner, i was 3 4 the way thru when the bit grabbed some end grain and kicked back. for wood, i'm using splined teak for the desk top and qs white oak for the trim.
Router Kickback I try not to say never or always, so i'll just say you won't catch me climb cutting on a table router. i would much rather be holding the router where my hands are well away from the cutter. Today, i just tried out my new spiral top bearing router bit and had the piece kickback at me as soon as i entered the cut. there was only a tiny bit of material to trim. i don't think this kind of kickback from a router bit is normal. I recently built a router table (the john katz moses mini router table). i was working on a making some cutting boards out of 1 inch thick solid beech wood (inspired by the recent article in fw magazine) and using a template to get the boards to the same size. I recently created a simple router jig to plane the first glue up of my end grain cutting board. the set up is two plywood rails equaling 1.5 inches thick and a basic sled made from 3 4 inch plywood. the rails sit on the cast iron top of my table saw and the sled glides over the rails.

I can't change the speed on this router. it is end grain, but i've routed end grain in the past with no issues. which is why i'm wondering if this bit needs to be sharpened??. So i bought a used duplicarver today on craigslist. it has a black and decker 1hp 7604 type 4 router. i bought new bits for my project since it didn't come with any. my issue is that i'm getting a lot of kickbacks and jerks which is ruining a lot of material. extra info, i am using stabilized wood. I've used routers for 30 years and never had a kickback. i always lower the spinning cutter gently into the work, go slowly and the cutter speed is so high and feed rate so slow that a kickback seems unlikely?. Are you using a pin to help start and end the feed? proud maker of large quantities of sawdust oh, and the occasional project!.
