Key Enabling Technologies
Key Enabling Technologies This study analyses how the eu is performing in developing and protecting ownership and know how in six critical technologies: advanced manufacturing and materials, life science technologies, micro nano electronics and photonics, artificial intelligence, and security and connectivity technologies. it discusses policy options for strengthening the eu's technological sovereignty in kets and the challenges and opportunities they offer for society and economy. Kets are a group of six technologies that share features with general purpose technologies and are anticipated to contribute to innovation, europe’s industrial competitiveness, and tackling grand societal challenges.
Key Technologies Enabling Autonomy Roboticsprovision In policy strategies, key enabling technologies (kets) are described as knowledge intensive and multidisciplinary technologies driving profound transformations for modernization of industries. Kets are “knowledge intensive technologies that are associated with high r&d intensity, rapid innovation cycles, high capital expenditure, and a highly skilled workforce. they enable innovation in processes, goods and services across the economy and are of systemic importance. Together with tno, commissioned by the ministry of economic affairs, the basic list of key enabling technologies from 2018 has been recalibrated to 44 technologies divided into eight categories by 2023. this list of key enabling technologies also forms the basis of the national technology strategy. We foster a strategic, future oriented and anticipatory culture in the eu policymaking process.

We foster a strategic, future oriented and anticipatory culture in the eu policymaking process. Key enabling technologies (kets) are an eu policy concept that was introduced in 2009 to stimulate critical mass for research and innovation in novel and complex technologies, to boost industrial competitiveness, and to promote european re industrialisation (european parliament). According to the commission key enabling technologies are of “systemic relevance“ for the european economy and provide the basis for process, goods and service innovation. therefore, a process is to be launched whose purpose is to identify and promote the key enabling technologies in the eu. We propose a new model for understanding the theoretical and practical study of technology development through the lens of enabling technologies and their development and maturity cycles.
