Kalamazoo Public Library Wants Their Books Back Plans To Reopen A vital resource for both the weary traveler seeking a safe place to lodge overnight, and the permanent villager needing of a community hub to take in the news and public discourse of the day, kalamazoo’s first hotel was aptly named the kalamazoo house. When the building was slated for destruction in 1985, to make room for a proposed parking facility, it was saved by prominent local restorers lou and annette conti, and they turned into a luxury hotel named “the kalamazoo house”—after the city’s impressive first hotel from a century before.
