Just Electrocuted Myself While Changing Strings Talkbass
Just Electrocuted Myself While Changing Strings Talkbass Just electrocuted myself while changing strings! well there's a first time for everything i guess. was sitting on the edge of my bed removing some nickel rounds and replacing them with fender ml flats on my p bass. One of the higher strings snapped between the nut and the tuning post. the trajectory was an arc back past and over the bridge. the string planted it's tip straight down into the top. i had to use vice grip pliers and tug a lot to remove it.
Just Electrocuted Myself While Changing Strings Talkbass If the only conductor you were touching was the wire, you definitely didn't get shocked. to get shocked, you need to be touching two different potentials, and it sounds like you touched just one. I have bought a few things from them over the years; a couple of sets of pickups, the occasional nut and i think a string tree. they are one of the best priced options for parts by mail that i have found in aus. I didn't actually see that part happen, just felt it! there was nothing else around electrical the string could have touched. only one of those prongs out of three should have power, which makes the odds even more crazy. if there is power on the neutral or ground, there is a problem. Got to removing the g string and as i'm pulling it out the bottom of the ferrule the light in my bedroom goes out, i see a flash of fire in front of my face and felt immediate severe burning in my right hand.

One end of the string was most likely at full voltage while the other end was close to zero voltage, otherwise it would not have heated up like an old fashion radiator, so wherever his fingers were the voltage was somewhere between zero and full voltage. that's just my opinion of course. He grabbed the mic while touching the strings and the shock clenched his hand around the mic so he couldn't let go. he legit could have died, scariest thing i've ever seen. To all bass players and stage crew, have you ever broken a string on your only bass and had the string changed onstage while continuing to play? or have you been a roadie who changed a string on a bass on stage while it was being played?. When i put my arm across the strings just as a habit, i get a buzz that begins small and then keeps getting worse and worse, and it'll leave red marks on me. feels like someone's yanking my hair.
