John Part 4 Level Ground

John Part 4 Level Ground Jesus, who john calls “the word,” existed from the very beginning and was himself actively involved in the creation of the world. next we heard the testimony of several eyewitnesses (john the baptist, andrew, philip and nathanael). 4 now he had to go through samaria. 5 so he came to a town in samaria called sychar, near the plot of ground jacob had given to his son joseph. 6 jacob’s well was there, and jesus, tired as he was from the journey, sat down by the well.

John Part 2 Level Ground I have used hebrews for the background study of john 1:1 3, since the bible is the entire truth of god and is its own commentary. let’s do the word of god and live!. Finally, john 4 illustrates the universality of the gospel message. jesus' interaction with the samaritan woman shows that salvation is available to all, regardless of background or past mistakes. John has been careful to show us that jesus is god, but also wanted us to know that jesus was not a super man. jesus genuinely submitted to our human limitations. In john 4, he engaged a samaritan woman of questionable reputation, one despised by society. together, these encounters show that the gospel addresses both the highest and lowest in the eyes of the world.

Some have suggested that the pharisees turned their attention to jesus because john the baptist had now been thrown into prison. but the text gives no hint of this. John 4 now jesus learned that the pharisees had heard that he was gaining and baptizing more disciples than john— although in fact it was not jesus who baptized, but his disciples. There, about one half mile west of the village of sychar, where joseph's tomb is located, at the well which jacob, in his day, had dug for his flocks and herds, jesus sat down to rest. John 4:5 6, “so he came to a city of samaria called sychar, near the parcel of ground that jacob gave to his son joseph; and jacob’s well was there. so jesus, being wearied from his journey, was sitting thus by the well.
