Ann Kaye Studio Growing up on the gold coast, john started his foray into the art world after being enamoured by graffiti as a child, capturing colourful glimpses of throw ups on passing trains. The temporary studio was located downstairs from his best friends marketing agency. i had peaked through their offices and was impressed by the setup – it was filled with mac desktops, kaws statues, terry richardson coffee table books, custom neon signs and other pop culture collectables. Hailing from the east coast of australia, john kaye migrated west to the sunny city of perth to undertake a residency at the butcher shop. his show ‘chained to the sky’ saw work created inside and outside of the studio with overarching themes concerning freedom and a transient lifestyle. Over three weeks, john explores the region on a motorbike, immersing himself in local villages and cultures. a self taught painter, john kaye specializes in large scale artworks, dividing his time between painting murals and working in his studio.
