Jazz Combos School Of Theatre Music Kyle holds a dma from uc san diego, where he studied with mark dresser and anthony davis, an mm from florida international university, and a bm from florida atlantic university. his book, bells plucked from air, sheds light on harmonic techniques for the double bass. In these small groups, students are able to work on interaction and improvisation in an intimate setting. with a blend of classic small group repertoire, jazz standards, and student compositions and arrangements, these groups are the cornerstone of students' training in jazz studies. The university jazz ensembles play a variety of big band repertoire and perform for many events both on and off campus. entrance is limited to traditional big band instruments: trumpet, trombone, saxophone, piano, guitar, bass, drums, and percussion. Jazz combos iii, iv, and v, directed by dr. gabriel santiago, and graduate teaching assistant, sam lumsden,presenta concert of small–group jazz. the program includes music by renownedjazzartists,as well as original student compositions and arrangements. Performances include at least two concerts on campus each semester, plus other performances off campus, such as the st. mary's fiesta jazz festival. students (of any instrument!) who wish to develop their jazz improvisation skills may register for jazz combos.
