Ipads 20somethingkids And 1kookyteacher One thing i love about learning how to use ipads–or anything that is new to most kids in the room– is that we figure things out together! sometimes this happens when i teach a new skill, and sometimes it happens when even i don’t know what to do and i simply say, “let’s figure out how to do….”. No ipads, no phones because the baby's brain is malleable. yes and it's pruning neurons and it needs to smell mommy and daddy and needs to hear our voice reading books to the child etcetera. this helps to the child to feel and to feel safe and secure. healthy attachment is the key to avoiding all personality disorders. hm.

Ipads 20somethingkids And 1kookyteacher Having only one ipad has not limited my ability to use technology effectively with my students. it is a great tool for analyzing what my students know and can do, and it definitely increases their participation, motivation, and success in the mathematics classroom. We spent most of the next hour working on setting up the ipad so we could start using it–you know, apple ids, mail settings, etc. while i knew we could handle it, and we had mrs. hong leading the way, it’s really hard to do anything this technical with 40 5th graders!. Ipad minis make it easy to have everyone look at the same text at the same time, but then interact with it in whatever way works for them as a learner. and they’re portable and small, making them easy to go anywhere–even the rug–unlike when we were only using our laptops for these kinds of things. I have loved doing jigsaw puzzles all my life, and even today usually do one daily, on an app on my ipad. every year on global school play day, our class puts together a 500 piece puzzle together over the day.

Our first ipad project was to use pic collage to create home and lock screens to personalize our ipads and help us tell them apart from others. we’ll use this app (along with many others) in creative ways throughout the year to show what we’ve learned and demonstrate our understanding. So as i got started with ipads in 1st grade (which is very different than getting started with them in 5th grade!), i was glad to have help from my friend jen bartin, who has had several years of experience with using them well in 2nd grade.
