International Snow Leopard Day Bhutan Foundation Snow leopard conservation for bhutan is all about bringing on board local yak herders who share their habitat to see benefits from having snow leopards literally living in their backyards. A key takeaway from the 4 provincial celebrations was the increased awareness of trap use and observations of snow leopards by herders and rangers, which led participants to plan anti trap activities to address this growing threat. The project aims to benefit over 300 yak herding households, gaining greater resilience against livestock depredation while fostering a positive attitude toward snow leopard conservation. Through this work, we aim to build resilient communities, support traditional livelihoods, and protect bhutan’s alpine biodiversity —ensuring that both people and snow leopards can coexist in the landscapes they share.

It will address human wildlife conflict, conduct an ecotourism program in the community, and provide snow leopard research support to jigme dorji national park, the park with the highest density of snow leopards in bhutan. The bhutan foundation has been a steadfast supporter of our commitment to conservation and build awareness among our local societies in joining snow leopard conservation and save the planet we share. On this international snow leopard day, we thank all the front liners and highland communities for their efforts in saving this magnificent elusive. Today, we celebrate the snow leopard, the elusive guardian of our high mountains and a powerful symbol of balance in nature.
