Informal Sustainability Lab The informal sustainability lab is an interdisciplinary research group led by brandon marc finn at the school for environment and sustainability at the university of michigan. our work focuses on informality and sustainability. we aim to do high impact and courageous work together. Finn received his phd in urban planning from harvard university in 2022. he leads the informal sustainability lab at the university of michigan and researches mining and urbanization. finn is also a member of the urban sustainability research group.

He leads the informal sustainability lab at the university of michigan. brandon conducts mixed methods research on informality related to urbanization and global decarbonization. Sarah studies the relationship between mining companies and small scale mining in the democratic republic of the congo and indonesia. in the summer of 2025, she will collect primary data on the social and environmental tradeoffs associated with artisanal and small scale (asm) mining in indonesia.
