Patient navigation is known as a patient centered approach to empower individuals to connect with appropriate services. literature surrounding the indigenous patient navigator (ipn) remains sparse necessitating this scoping review.

There are both cultural and geographic challenges and solutions that may be unique to indigenous communities and the patient navigators who work in those areas. The purpose of the ipnn is to provide a virtual support program to address the culturally and geographically unique challenges of indigenous navigation programs and provide appropriate solutions to them. Through advocacy, communication, and coordination, the program supports siksika nation members and surrounding communities in navigating the complex health care system, ensuring that every individual receives high quality, trauma informed, and holistic care.

General The purpose of the ipnn is to provide a virtual support program to address the culturally and geographically unique challenges of indigenous navigation programs and provide appropriate solutions to them. Through advocacy, communication, and coordination, the program supports siksika nation members and surrounding communities in navigating the complex health care system, ensuring that every individual receives high quality, trauma informed, and holistic care. The community based indigenous patient navigator grant program (navigator program) is intended to address the immediate challenges facing indigenous patients, communities and organizations. The indigenous patient navigator program is a partnership between eastern health and first light – st. john’s friendship centre. launched in 2009, the program was created to support indigenous patients and their families who travel to st. john’s for medical appointments. Indigenous patient navigators support indigenous patients and their families by helping them to navigate the complexities of the health care system. the ipn program offers support to first nations, inuit and métis people who are referred to st. john’s for health care treatment. We conducted an environmental scan of indigenous patient navigator resources and programs in ontario and canada. our aim was to determine evaluation frameworks, training, definitions of the ipns with their responsibilities, and ipn programs in place in various healthcare contexts.
