Indigenous Patient Navigation Program This course equips participants with foundational knowledge and skills needed to navigate and understand how indigenous patient navigators (ipns) roles work within the healthcare team to reduce barriers and support health equity to improve outcomes for patients and their families. Indigenous patient navigators support indigenous patients and their families by helping them to navigate the complexities of the health care system. the ipn program offers support to first nations, inuit and métis people who are referred to st. john’s for health care treatment. We conducted an environmental scan of indigenous patient navigator resources and programs in ontario and canada. our aim was to determine evaluation frameworks, training, definitions of the ipns with their responsibilities, and ipn programs in place in various healthcare contexts.
