Indicators Archives Noaa Arctic
Indicators Noaa Arctic A prominent socioeconomic development in recent years has been an increase in maritime ship traffic (characterized in view of ship movements and attributes of type, size, and flag state) in the arctic ocean as the sea ice diminishes with climate warming. The nasa goddard institute for space studies surface temperature analysis version 4 (gistemp v4) is used to describe long term arctic (60–90°n) and global (90°s–90°n) surface air temperatures since 1900 (fig. 1).
Indicators Archives Noaa Arctic Monthly values for the arctic oscillation index, which tracks shifts in surface pressure between the mid latitudes and the arctic. during the positive phase, the jet stream stays farther north, and mid latitude winters are milder than usual. This table of indicators provides an overview of the current status of the arctic from 1970 to the present. the selected time series represent four indicator types, including climate, land, marine, and ecosystems. Key observational indicators of climate change in the arctic, most spanning a 47 year period (1971–2017) demonstrate fundamental changes among nine key elements of the arctic system. Its essays reveal the increasing pace, scale, and consequences of rapid environmental change across the arctic’s vital signs (fig. 1)—annually reported critical indicators of marine, terrestrial, and atmospheric processes—and other consequential parts of the arctic system.

Eleven nations provided support to establish twelve observing stations around the arctic. the observations were not as widespread or long lasting as would be needed to describe the climate in detail, but they provided the first cohesive look at the arctic weather.
