Habitat for humanity’s national home builders blitz began in wake county, nc in 2002 when 12 professional home builders built 12 homes in 5 days, donating labor and materials, for a total cost of only $84,000 (not including land). After successful national events in 2008, 2012 and 2014, home builders blitz became an annual event. it has added a total of more than 2,000 homes to communities by mobilizing builders and volunteers as hearts, hands and voices for the cause of safe, decent, afordable housing. Founded as a means to include local builders in habitat for humanity’s mission, the home builders blitz condensed build schedule allows affiliates to build more homes without overextending capacity or significantly increasing overhead.
