In the 2026–2030 period, hiv prevention financing needs to transition from emergency and project financing to sustainable financing of prevention, in line with country systems.

We argue in this commentary that increased and sustained leadership and engagement of communities across hiv prevention, treatment and care services is essential for future progress in fighting the epidemic. We spotlight successful models that use community feedback, participatory data collection, and accountability mechanisms to strengthen hiv prevention efforts and tailor interventions to the unique needs of specific communities.
