The health star rating system was updated in november 2020, with a 2 year implementation period. these fact sheets are designed to increase understanding of the updated system, communicate recent changes and encourage uptake on labels by the food industry. This study aimed to analyse the use of health stars on new packaged food products entering the australian marketplace by level of food processing to answer the research question: ‘is the health star rating system misrepresenting the healthiness of new food products?’. The present research demonstrates that a health star rating (hsr), one type of interpretive label, can enhance consumer responses among individuals with low subjective nutrition knowledge (snk).
