Health Issues In The Community Chex Through the course participants gain a broad understanding of the social model of health, health inequalities, power & participation and community development approaches in health – and how they can use these to make change happen in their communities. We work with community led health organisations, local authorities, the nhs and scottish government to promote community led health as a way to tackle scotland’s persistent health inequalities.
Health Issues In The Community Chex Health issues in the community (hiic) is a course that helps people understand what affects their health and the health of their communities. The course was developed by the scottish community development centre and the community health exchange (chex) and is delivered by trained tutors across scotland. hiic supports people of all ages to develop skills and knowledge to address health issues using community development approaches. Chex has a range of online resources on health inequalities and community development approaches to health, as well as examples, commentary and information on different community health topics. The network is also the home of health issues in the community, which support adults and young people engage in understanding and tackling the health issues important to them, using community development approaches.

These listeners hold senior health and wellbeing positions in the nhs, scottish government and academia, and will be there to hear your experiences and insights and work with us to ensure that our collective knowledge and experience is better understood and fed into work at the national level. Health issues in the community, otherwise known as hiic is a training programme aimed at increasing community capacity, increasing community participation, and establishing consolidating community development approaches to tackling inequalities in health.
