Harvest is one of my favorite series coming out of image in the past year. not only does it offer a fresh idea of an intense, unexplored reality, but the art is mind blowing, packed with graphic. Realism isn't exactly what lieberman seems to be aiming for here, though some of the imagery is absolutely grisly, but instead harvest couples the hyperbole and genre blurring of japanese melodrama with prime time television gravitas. Beneath a broken harvest moon, two farmers venture out across a landscape of ruins in search of a mysterious crop. Harvest #1 contains all the raw material necessary to make a truly spectacular comic, but that potential remains untapped by the book’s end, leaving the reader with a formulaic narrative and the hope that the next issue will be better.
