Going Through Freethinkers Anonymous “it’s a dangerous business, frodo, going out your door. you step onto the road, and if you don’t keep your feet, there’s no knowing where you might be swept off to.”. While i couldn’t pinpoint the exact date i’d started, i knew it was close enough that i could safely say i’d been doing this odd little thing i called “freethinkers anonymous” for thirty years.

New to a.a. and new to freethinkers? some of us are new to a.a., have a secular belief system (or are questioning our “faith”), and were lucky enough to initially find a home at freethinkers in aa. There are members of our group that have been sober for 30 years without having to compromise their spiritual beliefs (or lack of). also, there is a book called the alternative 12 steps that translates the steps into secular language. But we held a very special face to face meeting on 12 september 2023 (pictured above), when 30 stonehenge aa freethinkers, from the uk and usa, met for a private session inside the inner circle of stones at sunset.

Also after completing the first nine steps, i recommend that the addicted one add a weekly meeting to their 12 step schedule at acoa (adult children of alcoholics or dysfunctional families) or coda (codependents anonymous). Narcotics anonymous is a fellowship based on principles honesty, openness and willingness, not a “need to believe” doctrinal cult. a 2012 poll by win gallup international found that 48% of australians claimed no religion; 37% were religious; 10% declared themselves “convinced atheists”.
