I got the pd stepper mounted on a stepper motor, added a pulley for a small timing belt, and another pulley on the square shaft of the control knob. when not moving, the motor freewheels so you use the knob normally, but now i can adjust the furnace when i am away. The fystex e4 board seems well supported and gives me an 2 extra stepper motor controllers. i can't think of a use for the 4th, but the 3rd would be good for an electronic focuser (which could power a nema11 with a 27:1 planetary). ultimately the goal i think is reachable, maybe not for me.

This is some really nice looking stuff! i've been kind of looking for a way to power an esp plus 12v (pc) fans motors from usb pd as well.
