Learning Lab Future City Competition The future city competition is an international engineering competition that focuses on improving students' math, engineering, and science skills. the program is open to middle school students who attend a public, private or home school, and to those attending high school. Students present their future city with multiple deliverables; a city essay; a city model; a project plan, & a presentation and q&a to judges at regional competitions in january. regional winners represent their region at the competition finals in washington, dc in february. Now in its 33rd year, this dynamic stem program challenges students to imagine, design, and build cities of the future, with this year's theme, "above the current", focusing on floating. What is future city competition? future city is a project based educational program for sixth , seventh and eighth grade students that engages and challenges them to develop their vision of a livable city of the future.
Future City Competition 2026 Newboco Now in its 33rd year, this dynamic stem program challenges students to imagine, design, and build cities of the future, with this year's theme, "above the current", focusing on floating. What is future city competition? future city is a project based educational program for sixth , seventh and eighth grade students that engages and challenges them to develop their vision of a livable city of the future. Future city is a hands on stem competition run by discovere where middle school teams design and present futuristic sustainable cities. it uses project based learning and culminates in regional and national live events. Future city: about the competition each year 6th, 7th and 8th grade students embark on a transformational learning experience as they ask and answer the question: how can we make the world a better place?. Using the engineering design process (edp) and project management skills, students showcase their solutions to a citywide sustainability issue. this year’s challenge asks students to d esign a city that eliminates food waste from farm to table and keeps your citizens healthy and safe. Students participate in the future city competition in teams (of at least three students), guided by an educator and a volunteer stem mentor. teams spend approximately four months creating cities that could exist at least 100 years in the future.
