What Exactly Is The Forest School Concept And How Does It Enrich Forest school is a child centred inspirational learning process, that offers opportunities for holistic growth through regular sessions. it is a long term program that supports play, exploration and supported risk taking. The school focuses on nurturing the potential of individual pupils, in all areas of a broad curriculum; something we have been doing for over 150 years. we host regular open events and taster sessions throughout the year. We lost track of time in the magical world that is ‘forest school’ and almost forgot to eat our packed lunches (courtesy of our school chef, des). we then came together for some reflections on the morning and finished off with our forest school song. Elmhurst's forest school programme provides boys from little elms through to year 6 with the opportunity to expand their learning beyond the classroom and to explore their natural surroundings.

Forest school inspires a deep and meaningful connection to the world and an understanding of how a learner fits within it. our approach to risk means that learners constantly expand on their abilities by solving real world issues, building self belief and resilience. A trip to forest school is a highlight for many of our youngest learners with all boys in the school spending half a day per week for at least one term in the year. hot chocolate is enjoyed, fires are made and adventures are had with their friends in an environment that encourages respect for the outdoors and guided risk taking.
