Hangarflying Home Follow my progress as i start from a pile of aluminum pieces and create an aircraft. my passion for flying started my senior year at the university of nebraska at omaha. i was working on my degree in biology in hopes of attending medical school. during a visit to my counselor i needed to fill a spot in my up coming semester. I tried flying formation with airshow pilots in an rv 8, and let’s just say, it was a challenge i’ll never forget.
Hangarflying Home Hangar 9’s sport scale version of van’s tandem low wing rv 8 is just as nimble, responsive and maneuverable as its full scale counterpart, making it a great choice for sport and aerobatic flying fun. It must remain closed in flight, but the standard fresh air ducts provide plenty of fresh air to both seats. the rv 8 8a is designed to be flown from the front seat, although a rear stick is provided and a rear throttle and rudder pedals are optional. The folks at hangar 9 are releasing a very nice looking new sport scale rv 8 arf in a .40 size. the airframe appears to be equally well suited for glow or electric power. Our van’s rv 8, metal mistress, was built at home in lake geneva, wisconsin, and is now hangared at door county cherryland airport, in sturgeon bay, wisconsin. as a vietnam war veteran and a student of military aviation history, the paint scheme i chose and completed is polished aluminum black white.

I’ve ordered a rv 10 kit and am planning to buy an rv8 to fly aerobatics. i’m looking at buying a hangar with interior dimensions of 43x34 and am trying to figure out if both will fit. Put a 180 hp engine with a constant speed prop on an 1800 pound gross airplane, and it takes off down the runway like a scalded cat. pull back when you hit flying speed, which only takes a few seconds, and the airplane goes up like an elevator in a manhattan skyscraper. First flight of hangar 9 rv 8 ep, using hobby king g60 motor on 6s with 15x8 prop. flies very well and sounds great although hard to pick up on video over wi. I've had a couple of hangar 9 models and on balance, i'd characterize them as well thought out with a quality feel (apart from a few small components), but i think their quality control is no more than average.
