Expertly painted first models are far and few between, and will only really come from people with an art painting background. a lot of what you are seeing may be lies or might say "first space marine", or "first tyranid", and they've been painting miniatures for a while, just not that kind model. I'm just getting in to warhammer 40k, and have painted a few models myself (i have a long way to go) but everyone that has commented has a point, thinning your paints helps a ton. just dip your brush into a cup of water once or twice and that should be enough until the paint on your pallet dries up. good luck!!. I never used mine: it had already lost its point and just feels bad in my hand. but you nailed that mini. if you feel like continuing, i highly recommend you buy some nuln oil or any other shade wash paint. it’s a special paint that sticks to recesses and brings out all the details.
