Plan and conduct a firewise day event in your community. this can be a community cleanup day, educational event, service day for a neighbor that can’t accomplish the work alone, or other event that meets your needs. There are 48 established firewise usa sites in deschutes county with more becoming recognized each year. it’s a simple way for a neighborhood to come together and prepare for wildfire. new sites can be as small as eight homeowners to as large as 2,500. Initiated at the grassroots level, the firewise communities usa program empowers homeowners to help protect their neighborhoods. during the firewise communities usa community assessment process, a specialist from the oregon department of forestry identifies wildfire risks to your neighborhood. As our neighborhoods warm, the threat of a wildfire starting and spreading in swhrl neighborhoods will increase; to help address this, portland fire and rescue, portland parks bureau, and the oregon department of forestry are helping neighborhoods create firewise community neighborhoods.
