2016 Humanities Center October 20, 2016 michelangelo’s complex, revolutionary frescoes in the vault of the sistine chapel remain the standard by which artistic difficulty and accomplishment are measured. Learn more about the projects that were selected this year and the exciting line up of speakers, films, symposia, courses, conferences, panels and exhibitions. What role have islamized armenians played in this debate and how have their narratives underscored gender as a central aspect of the armenian genocide? this course sets out to tackle these questions by first examining scholarship on the armenian genocide and turkish state denial. The national humanities center appointed 37 fellows for the academic year 2016–17. these leading scholars come to the center from 17 states, argentina, south africa, and the united kingdom. The cohort includes scholars of history, philosophy, music, and english, among other humanities disciplines. chosen from a pool of nearly 300 applicants, the fellows are stanford faculty, advanced stanford graduate students, and academics from california, across the united states, and europe. The fall 2016 scripps college humanities institute lineup features a series of lectures and discussions about how this global war on terror has–and has not–changed both the united states and the world in the twenty first century.
