Lived and living experience workers (llews) work across a wide range of areas including peer work, system advocacy, consultancy, education and research. over the past 7 years in victoria we have seen an extraordinary growth in llews across clinical, community and the ngo sector.
Integration Of Framework For Lived Experience Peer Work In A lot has been achieved to improve mental health and build an evidence base in the local community. however, there is still much to learn. this presentation will discuss consumer led peer recovery programs for individuals ('recovery together'), their families, and friends ('circles of support’). The role of the lived experience peer workforce continues to be recognised as an important role to support the consumer, carer, family or significant other in their journey of recovery wellbeing. To be able to describe and delineate the work of the lived experience workforce who provide peer support to consumers and carers across the lifespan from youth to adult and older adult. Effective peer workers are highly skilled and trained in how to apply what they have learned through their lived experience to their work practice. this may be from the perspective of either personal lived experience, or as a carer family of someone experiencing mental health challenges.
