Explore Plocan Educational And Interactive Itinerary In The Canary
Explore Plocan Educational And Interactive Itinerary In The Canary With these activities, plocan seeks not only to inform, but also to inspire new generations, awakening their interest in science and technology. The main plocan facility, the oceanic platform, will be located in the open sea, one mile off the coast, in the municipality of telde (northwest of the island of gran canaria) in an area of 23 km2 reserved for scientific technical experimentation.
Plocan Promotes Marine Robotics In Canary Islands Classrooms Plocan Plocan offers land based and sea based novel infrastructures to promote long term observation and sustainability of the ocean, providing a cost effective combination of services, such as observatories, a test site, a base for marine vehicles, training and an innovation hub. The oceanic platform of the canary islands is a unique scientific technical infrastructure (icts) whose mission is to promote the development of knowledge and technologies for the responsible and sustainable use of the ocean. Plocan provides: (1) an ocean observatory for the continuous and real time monitoring in fields such as the study of global change and ocean acidification, water column and deep sea ecosystems, ocean biogeochemistry and geophysics. Plocan offers both onshore and offshore experimental facilities and laboratories, operational throughout the whole year thanks to the canary islands excellent climatic conditions. plocan also brings a broad experience in large national and eu marine maritime projects and initiatives.

The oceanic platform of the canary islands is a public consortium, created in 2007 by the then ministry of education and science and the government of the autonomous community of the canary islands. Located east of gran canaria island (canary islands, spain), plocan will provide rapid access to great depths at short distance from the shore, accelerating research and the generation of water column and deep ocean knowledge. The launching of the small educational sailing boat, called “el hierro mar, salitre y lava”, took place after a training session in which students and teachers from ies garoé and representatives of plocan participated. the event was supported by the town council of el pinar from el hierro.
