This expedition is a seafloor mapping mission to bring e v nautilus from british columbia back to the central pacific for subsequent expeditions of the 2024 field season.
The Nautilus Save The Nautilus Between april and october 2025, ocean exploration trust (oet) and its partners will use exploration vessel (e v) nautilus to explore deep ocean habitats and maritime heritage sites in the central, western, and southern pacific ocean. The plan is to deploy baited traps, set out baited remote underwater video systems (bruvs), search for nautilus eggs with a remote operated vehicle (rov), and collect informative data on the nautilus population within fiji, such as shell length width, sex, shell abnormalities, and non lethal tissue and shell samples. In 2018, utsch, whom barord calls “a ferocious intellect, and one who climbs mountains and scales hard problems,” and the save the nautilus team led an expedition in fiji, where they surveyed the nautilus population in an area they’ve never been seen before.
