In a lot of ways, escape plan caught me off guard. i was expecting a loud and over the top action flick with a bunch of explosions and cheesy one liners from arnie and sly (well, you’ll hear some one liners, but they never reach the point of overkill). I was surprised at how extremely lackluster escape plan was. it’s a very fragmented flick. things don’t really build in the way you would think they would to a tension filled escape. situations arise that would appear to lead to something else, but they just stop. But let’s hit on what matters most: escape plan is an old school suspense action thriller set in a very modern prison. it’s like escape from alcatraz in contemporary settings, only nobody cared much for the acting or personalities, just the sloppy action. What makes “escape plan” different from a typical prison action movie? it emphasizes the mechanics of escaping—rules, layout, routines, psychological pressure, and system vulnerabilities—rather than relying only on brawls and shootouts. it plays like an engineering puzzle under “perfect” control.
