Ecosystem Based Adaptation Ugandan Case Studies
Ecosystem Based Adaptation Undp Climate Change Adaptation This case study applies the common international classification of ecosystem services framework to examine an ecosystem based adaptation program in the mt. elgon region of uganda. The project will demonstrate on the ground ecosystem based adaptation interventions in pilot sites around forests and wetlands, while providing training to the local and national government to implement nature based solutions and integrate them into existing forests and wetland management plans.
Ecosystem Based Adaptation In Mountain Elgon Ecosystem Undp Climate I am pleased to be showcasing the work of the global programme on ecosystem based adaptation in mountain ecosystems, funded by the international climate initiative (iki), and implemented from 2011 to 2016 through undp, unep and iucn, in partnership with the governments of nepal, peru and uganda. The objective of this uganda pilot project under the global mountain eba programme is to reduce the vulnerability of uganda to climate change impacts through piloting ecosystem based adaptation options with particular emphasis on mountain ecosystems in the mt elgon region. Iied and iucn are working with uganda's ministry of water and environment to gain policy insights from a project that implemented ecosystem based adaptation (eba) in rural communities near mount elgon national park. It then assesses whether and how international policy guidance on ecosystemͲbased approaches to adaptation has been integrated into national level development, climate change and sectoral policies in the case study countries of nepal, peru and uganda.
The Story Of Ecosystem Based Adaptation Through 5 Case Studies Global Iied and iucn are working with uganda's ministry of water and environment to gain policy insights from a project that implemented ecosystem based adaptation (eba) in rural communities near mount elgon national park. It then assesses whether and how international policy guidance on ecosystemͲbased approaches to adaptation has been integrated into national level development, climate change and sectoral policies in the case study countries of nepal, peru and uganda. In many cases, communities struggle for basic survival, as demonstrated by the high rate of ecosystem degradation and the slow uptake of ecosystem restoration interventions. this solution is about incentivizing adoption of eba measures in sanzara parish. This direct dependence on these life sustaining services provided by ecosystems, is what makes communities and economies particularly vulnerable to the risks of climate change and the inability and lack of capacity by poor communities to adapt to the changes further complicates this vulnerability. This paper discusses the eba approach that has been applied to mountain ecosystems of nepal, peru and uganda. This local case study seeks to inform uganda’s decision makers by discussing the effectiveness of eba, what is helping or hindering implementation, and how challenges can be addressed in emerging legislation and government planning.
