Decolonizing Journalism N Ost Participants from 9 countries met in berlin in december 2022. a key feature of this project is that we managed to build a very diverse group that included journalists, researchers, and activists who deal or plan to deal with decolonial thinking and put it into practice. N ost stands for netzwerk für osteuropa berichterstattung. it is a growing network for cross border journalism comprising more than 500 journalists and media organisations actively collaborating in english and other languages across europe.
Decolonizing Journalism N Ost The european network and media ngo n ost, supported by the jx fund, the european fund for journalism in exile, is holding a four day workshop on the topic of decolonisation of journalism. N ost aims to break through national media bubbles by bringing together journalists and media outlets from across the eu, eastern europe, and their neighboring countries. Journalism has both contributed to shaping and been shaped by colonialism and has reproduced the status quo at the expense of those on the margins. considering this reality, this study explores how journalism education and practice can be unlearned through a decolonising, indigenous standpoint. Deeply rooted power structures and authoritarian aggression fuel repression, conflict and forced migration. we create safe spaces allowing journalists in exile and elsewhere to reflect and deconstruct colonial narratives.
