Data Science For Social Justice Workshop Berkeley Graduate Division Developed in partnership between the d lab and the graduate division, with a common goal to reach marginalized students, this workshop will provide the tools, insights, and mentorship needed to get started in your critical data science journey. This 8 week workshop will give you the opportunity to learn the essential tools and methods for data science analysis and be introduced to critical frameworks that will enable you to create a project of your own design and to tell stories that can counter the market first mentality of data science.
Data Science For Social Justice Workshop 2023 D Lab Attendees receive training in natural language processing and leverage their skills to conduct discourse analysis on social media data in an interdisciplinary project. this workshop, about to conclude its third year, has trained over 75 graduate students across 20 disciplines. Berkeley graduate students from all areas of study are invited to attend the data science social justice workshop, a free, online 8 week program that introduces graduate students to. We will open with a public minisymposium on critical data science practices and introduce data science for social justice work. we will then work to identify projects within our goal areas and create research teams. The program will include a long term project with the local community and invest in the education of the next generation of researchers by driving the development and direction of new computational methods for quantitative social justice research.
