Dairyfeedbase Pasture Smarts Project
Pasturesmarts Pasture Management Made Easy The pasture smarts project aims to develop simple, day to day management options that leads to more pasture grazed and conserved on farm. The pasture smarts project was established to develop a robust and reliable automated pasture measurement process that will simplify the day to day management of farmers’ pasture assets and lead to productivity improvements through improved pasture assessment and utilisation.
Pasturesmarts Pasture Management Made Easy Developing pasture measurement technologies for near real time information. you can find out more about the current dairyfeedbase program research activities. New pasture cultivars will be the way that dairy farmers access innovations from the pasture program. improved pasture cultivars will be available from 2023, with each new generation of cultivar set to include new technology that improves yield, persistence and quality. Dairysoil focuses on improving soil health to support productive pastures while reducing reliance on synthetic fertilisers. the project explores how better understanding and management of the rhizosphere can improve nutrient efficiency, water retention and soil resilience. This factsheet describes the work of dairyfeedbase and the pasture smarts project. it provides a project timeline and appeals for partner farms to participate. biographical details of relevant researchers are also provided. notes:.

The dairyfeedbase pasture smarts project is reinventing how we do that. the project tests prototypes of fit for purpose technologies to increase pasture production and utilisation. The pasture smarts project aims to create a new management framework for measuring and utilising pasture that leads to higher yields, is grazed and conserved more effectively, with better management of risks, and with a goal of simplifying day to day management. In the past 18 months the project team, led by agriculture victoria senior research scientist dr liz morse mcnabb, has been working with seven partner farms across victoria and south australia. Since 2017, the dairyfeedbase program has worked closely with the dairy industry and developed a range of farmer ready products and tools – including satellite and sensor technologies to measure pasture production and quality across their farms.
