Cumberland C O Canal Trust Cumberland is a beautiful town nestled in one of the few natural passable cuts in the allegheny mountains of western maryland. it is listed in the national register of historic places. Our mission is to work in partnership with the national park service to preserve, promote, and protect the c&o canal. the trust engages communities and individuals to realize the park’s historical, natural, cultural heritage, and recreational potential.

Visit Cumberland C O Canal Trust Each year, the trust provides critical support throughout the entire length of the 184.5 mile park, from georgetown in washington d.c. to cumberland, maryland, by raising funds for crucial preservation projects and facilitating programs that keep our park beautiful, safe, and welcoming. Around the outside of the building, there are multiple signs that explain the history of the c&o and identify key landmarks between cumberland and dc. most notably (as eluded to) a massive 184.5 mile double wide trail begins (or ends) at this site.
