Banned Books Week 2020 University Library Sdsu Banned books week is celebrated to bring awareness to the first amendment rights of authors and readers. the library’s virtual experience will include trivia, a banned book virtual art contest, a #bookcoverdouble photo challenge, and recipe videos inspired by food in banned books. We have created this introduction video to showcase black authors who have had their books banned in america in the last 5 years.

Since the inception of banned books week in 1982, libraries and bookstores throughout the country have staged local read outs of banned and challenged books. the stand for the banned read out invites readers to submit brief videos of themselves reading from a banned book or discussing censorship. Their office for intellectual freedom (oif) compiles lists of challenged books based on reports received from libraries, schools, and the media on attempts to ban books in the united states. Use your craftiness and art skills to design your own interpretation of a banned book cover! art can be digital, or a photo of your painting or sketch. post your art to instagram, tag us @cscc library and use the hashtag #bannedbooksweek open to current students, faculty, and staff. no entry limit! 😊 have fun! look to the library’s social.
