Home Indigenous Climate Action Our team intends to join forces with other indigenous led groups and allies in climate justice to influence the outcomes of cop26 to ensure respect for indigenous rights and sovereignty are at the centre of global climate solutions. Indigenous activists and organizations from around the world traveled to cop26 to demand climate action from the streets of glasgow.

Indigenous Climate Network As millions took to the streets of cities around the world on saturday, demanding greater climate action, some countries taking part in the cop26 negotiations, made new pledges to invest in. Looking ahead to november’s cop26, in glasgow, where the alliance plans to meet with john kerry, president biden’s special envoy for climate, the leaders are working to secure funding for community forest protection—while keeping their expectations in check. We wanted to ensure that the decisions included the need to respect human rights, including indigenous peoples’ rights, in undertaking adaptation, mitigation, and loss and damage measures to deal with the immediate effects of the climate crisis. Four years after several governments and private funders pledged $1.7 billion at the cop26 u.n. climate summit to support the land tenure rights of indigenous and local communities, funders have announced that the pledge has surpassed its original financial target one year ahead of schedule.
